Federal Government Shutdown: Travel Information for Hawai‘i Visitors

Key Information 

You do not need to cancel or postpone your trip to Hawai‘i. Travel to and within the Hawaiian Islands remains largely unaffected by the federal government shutdown. Please review the information below for specific impacts to your visit. 

 

Air Travel & Airport Operations 

Flights are operating normally 

  • Flights to the Hawaiian Islands and within the state should remain largely unaffected.  
  • Essential federal government workers such as air traffic controllers and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents will continue to work in the event of a federal shutdown, ensuring safety and security.  

Traveler Tips: 

  • Check with your airline for the status of your flight before heading to the airport 
  • Allow extra time to pass through TSA security as a precautionary measure

  • Public trails 

 

National Parks, Wildlife Refuges, and Federal Facilities 

National parks and wildlife refuges in Hawai‘i may be closed or have limited access during the federal government shutdown. If you plan to visit a national park or refuge, please call directly for the latest operating hours and visitor information. Websites for these locations may not be maintained during the shutdown.
