Join us as we continue our MVCB Canoe Crop Corner! Featuring local farmers and chefs while educating both the community and visitors about Maui’s rich culture of canoe crops. Decemberʻs spotlight is on niu, a staple of Hawaiian heritage, with Ryan Burden, Coconut Information Farm & Cooking School, and cultural advisor U’I Kahue with Maui Grown 808.
Sentry Tournament of Champions – January 2 – 5
- The Sentry—formerly The Sentry Tournament of Champions—opens the 2025 calendar year and the PGA Tour season on Maui’s northwest coast at the Plantation Course at Kapalua. For the past 25 years, Maui has graciously hosted The Sentry, which aims to continue using its platform to ensure awareness, fundraising, and support for the West Maui community. The Sentry features an accomplished field of pro golfers, including PGA Tour winners from the 2024 calendar year and the top 50 of final FedExCup standings. - The popularity of the MVCB Canoe Crop Corner at Wailuku First Friday is growing! Chef Joey Macadangdang sampled his famous Laing dish made with kalo leaves, while Lukela Alboro shared kalo’s importance to the Hawaiian history in culture through a poi pounding demonstration.
- Local Media Tastemakers Press Trip, October 24 – 28, included Hawai’I Food & Wine Festival events in Kāʻanapali and local restaurant experiences in Lahaina, Wailuku and Kula. Journalists included Rachel Ng, TripAdvisor, AFAR, National Geographic; Laurie Lyons-Makaikou, AAA, Via, Hawaiʻi Magazine; and Sarah Burchard, Hana Hou, Forbes, Eater.
- The nationally syndicated and streaming show on NBC/Peacock called First Look filmed on West Maui November 5 – 12. The goal of the episode is to show that West Maui is open and there's still lots to do and see.
