City & County of Honolulu Department of Emergency Management Updates:
-
The central Pacific Hurricane season began 1 June and runs through 30 November. A reminder that the OVB is a liaison between county Department of Emergency Management and the industry in case of an emergency. Please stay prepared.
-
Get the City and County of Honolulu’s new notification system! Sign up at hnlalert.gov. Learn more about HNL Alert and get resources to share here.
-
Signing up for HNL Alert ensures you get rapid and detailed information from an official source during emergencies and disasters. You get early notice of developing situations, allowing you more time to prepare. HNL Alert messages provide real-time updates on urgent events, including images and links to information such as shelter locations and evacuation areas.
-
HNL Alert is used in addition to emergency warning systems that don’t require sign up, such as Wireless Emergency Alerts that sound on your cell phones, Emergency Alert System messages that interrupt radio and TV, and outdoor warning sirens. Everyone, including those not signed up for HNL Alert, will continue to be alerted of urgent emergency situations via these warning systems. However, these messages quickly disappear from TV and phone screens after they are broadcast. HNL Alert messages don’t disappear quickly, giving you more time to read and understand the information or share it with others.

What she covered: Jennifer focused her storytelling on U.S. National Parks. While on Oʻahu, she delved into the rich history of Pearl Harbor and Honouliuli National Historic Site. She also spent time experiencing local accommodations for additional destination coverage.
