Hawai'i Gains Great Media Exposure in the United Kingdom and Korea
"Holiday", which as the name suggests, is all about vacations and travel, attracts a regular audience of up to 9 million viewers each week with an ever-growing international audience on the BBC's worldwide satellite service. Research has shown that the BBC's reports on worldwide destinations have a significant impact on their viewers' eventual choice of holiday. Holiday will transmit between October 2003 and April 2004 every Monday evening on primetime BBC 1 at 7 pm.
Reported by The Korean Central Daily as being the largest exhibition of contemporary Korean artists ever shown outside of Korea, Crossings 2003: Korea/Hawai'i kicked-off on September 14th at Honolulu Hale. Eight reporters from various Korean media publications covered the event. As one of the largest projects ever undertaken jointly by the art organizations and museums in Hawai'i, the HVCB felt it was a key exposure opportunity for Hawai'i in Korea, as the exhibition is expected to generate significant international visibility and heighten public awareness of the cultural offerings in Hawai'i.
For more information, please contact Daniel Chun, Event Coordinator at (808) 924-0251 or via e-mail at dchun@hvcb.org.
La Cumbre - The Premier Travel Trade Show for Sales and Marketing to Latin America This year, the HVCB attended La Cumbre in Miami, Florida, from September 10-12 at the Miami Beach Convention Center. The Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel and Soltour, Inc. joined HVCB at its booth in representing the Islands of Aloha. Ole Tours, a local HVCB member, also participated in La Cumbre.
Julio Guridi, HVCB - Latin America Representative, conducted a total of 58 meetings with tour wholesalers and the press. The majority of the meetings were primary from Argentina and Brazil. Both Michiko Ohata (Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel) and Gigi Fiorentino (Soltur, Inc.) were pleased with the overall booth layout, and the quantity and quality of the attendees.
"I was very glad to be at the show and to be able to meet so many prospects for our hotel. I will continue to promote Hawai'i for our future Latin America market!" said Michiko Ohata (Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel).

Hawai'i Named "Favorite Corporate Meeting Location" By Skyguide Business Travel Readers
Hawai'i is the preferred meeting destination of choice for the frequent business traveler, according to the 2003 SkyGuide Best of Travel Awards. More than 4,200 SkyGuide magazine readers recently completed a survey rating various business travel components, such as airlines, hotels, and business destinations.
Hawai'i earned top honors in the category of "Favorite Corporate Meeting Location", beating out Bermuda and the Bahamas. Receiving the award was the HVCB. "This is another example of how Hawai'i has evolved as a destination to become a top-of-mind location for the serious business traveler, " said Michael Murray, CMP, CMM, CASE, director of sales for HVCB's Corporate Meetings and Incentives division. "The business world has come to appreciate Hawai'is attributes as a global meeting destination, our mid-pacific location, excellent air service, outstanding hotel and meeting facilities, and the full range of available support services.
"SkyGuide readers are primarily affluent, frequent travelers who annually average 42 business trips via air to 18 cities worldwide and spend 185 nights in hotels. The magazine is issued quarterly by American Express Publishing, the leading publisher of luxury lifestyle magazines. "SkyGuide readers are devoted travelers, and they are passionate about sharing their experiences," said Janet Libert, SkyGuide editor and publisher. "They truly are the voice of the frequent business traveler, and this survey provides great insight into their preferences and brand loyalties."
