On behalf of the Oahu Visitors Bureau, I’d

of our mission, marketing activities and programs.
As a result of our strong partnership, we’ve
been able to position Oahu as a vibrant, contemporary
island vacation destination, which effectively
competes in the world arena. Your efforts to continually
evolve our Oahu product with the creation of new
programs and activities has resulted in a greater
interest and understanding of Oahu’s attributes.

The O‘ahu Visitors Bureau team continues to strive through 2003 with creativity and dedication to position the Island of O‘ahu as the leading destination for diversity.
O‘ahu
Destination Specialist Program Going Strong!
The
O‘ahu Visitors Bureau North America Sales Team has
successfully completed Level I of the O‘ahu Destination
Specialist (ODS) Program with All About Hawaii and
Funjet Vacations. During the recent All About Hawaii
seminar series OVB visited 450 agents in 10 cities
in Oregon, Idaho, Washington, and Utah and the recent
Funjet Vacations series OVB visited a total of 120
agents in 3 cities in Illinois and Missouri. The Sales
Team is currently preparing for their last Level I
seminar blitzes with Apple Vacations and United Vacations.
In the Fall OVB will select qualified agents who successfully
completed the Level I seminars to be hosted by OVB
during the Level II on-island portion of the ODS Program.
Level II will run for 5 nights and 6 days. Also scheduled
for the fall is the 2nd Annual ODS Conference, which
will reunite roughly 100 of OVB's O‘ahu Destination
Specialists from September 12-17, 2003. This Conference
is designed to further enhance the ODS's knowledge
and passion for O‘ahu. The conference will focus on
the romance and family markets. The O‘ahu Shopping
and Spa Gala, another event in the planning process
for the fall, is scheduled for September 9-14, 2003.
This event will bring together 30 of Hawaii’s prized
travel partners including travel agents, tour operators,
press/media and the meeting
planners.

During the month
of May, OVB’s Japan team continued
to foster Japanese public relations efforts in Tokyo
and focus on OVB’s Japanese sales initiatives
in Sapporo and Tokyo. In June, the OVB’s
Japan team is looking forward to the regional
city promotion
in Fukuoka and Nagoya, in partnership with radio
stations in both cities, the promotion will bring
a variety
of activities including hula dancers, ukulele players,
Hawaiian quilt demonstrations which will help
to convey
the true Aloha Experience and Oahu’s diversity
to Japanese consumers in these two direct flight
cities.
Agents have been invited to participate as a way
to leverage the exposure with a sales component. •
Coordination for the HVCB Ohana Mission and summer
promotion with LocoMoco Sunset at Yomiuri Summer
Land
are set to take place in July. • The OVB
supported three wholesaler Hawaii campaigns in
the 1st quarter
impacting over 700 consumers.

In
June, OVB invited travel partners to attend the first
ever Romance Seminar themed “Optimizing O‘ahu’s Romance
Market,” which was generously hosted by the Waikiki
Beach Marriott. The seminar, deemed a success, featured
guest speaker David Liu from The Knot, one of the
leading wedding media and commerce companies. Guest
panel speakers included Chris Kam, Director of HVCB’s
Market Trends Department, Chris Russo, Oahu Destination
Specialist and owner of Travel Partners, Susan Tongg
O’Donnell, owner of Aloha Wedding Planners, Inc,
and Roberta Rinker-Ludloff, Regional Vice President
of Marketing for Hilton Hawaii. Due to the positive
response received from the attendees, more educational
seminars are being planned for the near future. To

O‘ahu
OVB welcomes the Brady’s Back to Hawaii!
The
OVB Marketing Team welcomed Associated Television
International to O‘ahu to film “The Brady’s Back
in Hawaii.” The show will air on the Travel Channel
as a documentary since some of the original cast
returned to O‘ahu to reminisce about the first
time they filmed the original Hawaii episode back
in the
70’s. The OVB Marketing Team is also working closely
with Vox, the nationwide private broadcaster in
Cologne Germany that has sent VOXTOURS, the travel
magazine
of Vox TV and to film for 11 days. VOXTOURS, the
leading travel-program on German television with
an audience of up to 2.5 million will feature the
Island of O‘ahu in as many as 7 feature stories
during the course of it’s 1-hour program, broadcast
every Sunday, and will additionally air two reruns
the
following week

Introduces Their Latest Collateral! |

The
marketing team is also pleased to introduce the Family
Planner and the Arts and Culture Booklet and Pass.
The Family Planner, the newest collateral piece added
to OVB’s extensive collection is distributed to consumers
with an interest in family travel and to travel agents
focusing on the family market.
And together with a number of organizations involved in O‘ahu’s arts and culture,
OVB has created an O‘ahu Arts and Culture booklet and pass to be used and distributed
exclusively by the O‘ahu Destination Specialists.
